Abstracts and briefs (printed), 1888-[ongoing].

This series contains the original abstracts and briefs filed by attorneys in cases before the Utah Supreme Court which were typeset and printed. Abstracts generally are summaries or excerpts from the records of the lower court which originally heard a case. Briefs are written arguments of attorneys and will generally include citations to the legal authorities (laws, previous court decisions, etc.) on which the attorney's argument is based. Missing Records: Cases 6190 - 14949 (ca. dates 1941-1975) missing from collection, except for some sporadic holdings for cases 11688-14945.

Petitioners Vaughn and Sharane Fischer, members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, filed a petition on 30 June 1987 to adopt the five children, ages 5-19, of Brenda and Joseph Thornton (both deceased at the time of this case, though Brenda has recently become the second wife of Vaughn Fischer).
